Optimized Newtonians for Astro-Imaging - TS Foto Line
Aperture from 150mm to 300mm
|
|
Astro imaging is becoming more and more popular. The digital revolution allows everyone to take images of the moon, the planets and even outside the solar system which had been only dreamed of a decade ago. Only a few years ago such images would have been compared with professional astronomical images.
Telescope-Service has developed a line high class photographical Newtonians together with the UK company Orion Optics. These Newtonians are made exclusively for TS in this configuration! |
The Focuser of the Foto Line Newtonians
|
|
The focuser is maybe the single most important mechanical part of any telescope - in particular if you want to use heavy photographical accessories! It must allow you to focus heavy accessories smoothly. Also the focuser should be low profile in order to maximize the fully illuminated field.

The Coma Corrector of the Foto Line Newtonians
|
|
The Baader Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector can be used with all Newtonians with a focal ratio between f/4 and f/6. Beyond f/6 you will not need a coma corrector anyway because the Newtonian coma is very little in such telescopes. A coma corrector works by reducing the design inherent coma of Newtonian telescopes (see left image below). It does not change the focal length. The telescope connection is 2", so the corrector fits directly into the focuser's 2" clamp. On the other side a T2 (M42x0.75) thread is used to connect a camera. T-rings are available for most common SLR and Digital SLR cameras. Mechanical length is only 3mm. |

| M 81/82 without Coma Corrector take a look at the magnified stars in the corners of the image. These large "blobs" are typical for fast focal ratio Newtonians. The useful field is limited to the central regions. |
North America Nebula with Coma Corrector The stars are much smaller and clearer in the edges of this image. More stars are visible because their light is concentrated on a smaller area of the chip / film. The useful field is much larger. |

The TS Foto Newtonian 6 is an ideal astro-camera for travelling. It weighs only about 4.5kgs (complete with focuser and tube rings). This means that small, easily portable mounts will carry it with good stability.
The telescope has been designed for both classical and digital SLR cameras. With its fast optics and short focal length excellent large area photos of extended nebulae and galaxies are possible.
Back focus is calculated for common SLR cameras. The optical and mechanical length of the coma corrector is considered for this. For visual use of this telescope we recommend the 35mm 2" extension tube. With it you will reach focus with most common eyepieces. |

TS Foto Newtonian 8
Aperture 200mm / Focal Length 900mm

The TS Foto Newtonian 8 - Optical Tube Assembly with integrated dovetail plate
|
|
Our TS Foto Newtonian with 200mm aperture and 900mm focal length is probably the most popular model of the Foto line. It resembles an excellent all purpose instrument with a clear focus on photographical applications. Due to its low weight it is easily portable and is held with excellent stability by light and portable mounts like the Astro-5, Vixen GP or Celestron CAM GoTo.
The focal length of 900mm is optimized for taking pictures of extended nebulae. At the same time you can magnify enough to take great pictures of small planetary nebulae and galaxies with still short exposure times.
Back focus is calculated for common SLR cameras. The optical and mechanical length of the coma corrector is considered for this. For visual use of this telescope we recommend the 35mm 2" extension tube. With it you will reach focus with most common eyepieces. |

TS Foto Newtonian 10
Aperture 250mm / Focal Length 1200mm

The TS Foto Newtonian 10 - Optical Tube Assembly with integrated dovetail plate
|
|
Due to its lightweight tube the TS Foto Newtonian 250mm is probably the largest Newtonian you can put on a compact and portable mount and still get a sufficient stability for photography. For short exposure times mounts like the Vixen GP are strong enough, but for longer exposure times we recommend such mounts as the wonderful Vixen GP-DX or the EQ6 (Foto Version).
250mm aperture and the resulting short exposure times offer plenty of detail in galaxies and nebulae. For many amateurs this telescope is an ideal compromise between size, portability and affordability. Öffnung zeigen schon viele Details an Galaxien und Nebeln. Für viele Amateure ist ein Gerät dieser Größe das Optimum, wenn es um Leistungsfähigkeit durch große Öffnung und doch noch eine händelbare Größe geht.

The flagship of the TS Foto Line Newtonians. With an aperture of 300mm (12") this is a powerful instrument even for stationary use. Many of our customers still find this telescope quite portable - the compact tube and the low weight of only 11.5kgs do the trick! The telescope fits on the backseats of most normal cars.
You will need a strong mount for this instrument. The GP-DX and Sphinx are only recommended when there is no wind. We rather recommend the EQ-6 (Foto version) or the new OTE because they will still hold the instrument steady if there is some wind. Obviously the image quality is very impressive. Very fine structures in the spiral arms of a galaxy or details within planetary nebulae are within reach. With its fast optics (focal ratio: f/4 !) you can take great deep sky images with digital cameras, even with very short exposure times. Specifications:
