Ultrascopic Eyepieces - 5 and 7 Lens Designs for Enhanced Field Sharpness
High quality eyepieces for demanding users.
![]() |
Orion Ultrascopic eyepieces are made in Japan. Even with critical telescopes, such as short focal ratio Newtonians or apochromatic refractors the image sharpness is very good over the entire field of view. There are nearly no telescopes that you cannot use these eyepieces with. Ultrascopic eyepieces do not have an exaggerated field of view that is only sharp in the cecntral 50%. Instead the comfortable field of view is fully corrected to the edge. Coating The eyepieces are fully multi-coated. This means that a multi-layer anti-reflective coating is applied to each glass-to-air surface. According to the manufacturer this coating has the highest quality that is technologically available today. Blackened Interior The eyepiece body is blackened inside and offers baffles against stray light. In addition the edges of the eye lenses are blackened as well. The result is an extremely good contrast and minimized internal reflections. |

STRATUS Wide Angle Eyepieces - 68°
Comfortable all purpose wide angle eyepieces - 20mm eye relief for eyeglass wearers

The Orion STRATUS eyepieces are an excellent range of high contrast wide angle eyepieces. They offer a very generous 68° apparent field of view and are equally suited for deep sky, lunar and planetary viewing. The visible field is approximately 70% larger than that of a typical Plossl eyepiece. One particular strength of the STRATUS eyepieces is their extreme viewing comfort. You can easily see the entire field of view - with or without eyeglasses. You can keep a comfortable 20mm distance between your eyes and the eyepiece. 8 lenses offer an excellent field sharpness, even at short focal length telescopes such as "fast" Newtonians. At the same time the sharpness on axis is excellent - each glass to air surface features a high grade multi-coating, and the lens edges are blackened for maximum contrast. If you are looking for a set of all-purpose eyepieces for viewing the planets, the moon and deep sky objects regardless, these are a hot recommendation! |

Nebular filters block artificial stray light, permitting the light of gas nebulae and planetary nebulae nearly unhindered. As a result contrast is enhanced strongly.

Broadband Nebular Filter Visual Application Broadband nebular filters have a higher light transmission than narrowband filters. As a result the image is brighter and allows you to use these filters on smaller telescopes (70mm aperture and larger). The overall impression of the image remains unchanged, only the number of visible stars is reduced slightly. The filter is used not only for planetary nebulae and gas nebulae (such as a narrowband filter), but also for galaxies. Of course the brightness of the galaxy is reduced a bit, but the contrast is enhanced by cutting off artificial stray light and thus reducing the background brightness. Photographical Application

Narrowband Nebular Filter Visual Application Narrowband nebular filters are made for astronomical observations in light-polluted areas. The important spectral lines H-Alpha, H-Beta and O-III are permitted through the filter nearly unhindered, while background brightness is reduced by cutting off stray light. Deep Sky objects gain a lot of contrast from narrowband filters. Gas nebulae and planetary nebulae in particular often appear better in a small telescope with narrowband filter than in a larger telescope without filter. Photographical Application

Variable Polarizer 1.25" & 2"
A variable polarizer allows you to adjust image brightness freely - recommended for bright objects within our solar system

The brightness of the moon varies largely following its phase. With a variable polarizer you can always view the moon at a comfortable brightness.
![]() |
There is often a large difference in brightness in details of many objects within our solar system. This is particularly obvious in: - craters on the moon near the terminator (the dividing line between the bright and the dark side of the moon) - sun spots and flares on the sun - details of the planets Bright areas outshine dark regions so that you will not be able to see all delicate details. With a variable polarizer you can adjust the image brightness according to your observing needs at any moment. Light Transmission Transmission of the variable polarizers is freely adjustable between 1% and 40%. As a result you can use the filter on nearly any telescope. Practical Use The variable polarizers are made of two separate polarizing filters in a rotating cell. By rotating the lower filter in relation to the upper filter you can reach different factors of light transmission.

Shorty Plus - Apochromatic 1.25" Barlow
A short 3-element apochromatic Barlow lens at a sensational price
The Orion Shorty Plus Barlow lens offers top grade image quality with all telescopes - Newtonians, Apochromats, Mak-Newtonians, ... Its short body allows you to use it in 1.25" star diagonals or short Newtonian focusers. The Barlow lens itself consists of three air-spaced multi-coated lenses for maximum transmission and image sharpness. With 27mm clear diameter you can use all 1.25" eyepieces without vignetting. The Shorty Plus is also highly recommended for astro-imaging. With the optional T2 adaptor you can attach standard SLR cameras (you only need a T-ring for the camera), turning the Shorty Plus Barlow into a powerful tele-converter with a focal extension factor of approx. 2.5x
