Star Blast - Mini Dobsonian
An ultra-compact tabletop telescope for travelling - surprisingly powerful

| The Orion Starblast is an ultra-compact Dobsonian telescope with a surprising optical performance. It is one of the most warmly recommended telescopes for beginners who are looking for a powerful yet compact telescope for visual use. The telescope is very easy to use and compact enough to fit into airline luggage (the telescope as carry-on luggage, the rocker-box as normal luggage). The rocker-box allows for smooth movements in both axes. This telescope's motto: Put it down and begin observing right away! Visual Use: 113 mm of aperture collect enough light to bring within reach hundreds of nebulae and galaxies. You will not only enjoy watching extended standard objects, such as the Orion nebula and the Pleiades, but also countless fainter objects. With the low-magnification eyepiece you can enjoy strolling through the milky-way leisurely, enjoying a multitude of pinpoint stars - example: With the TS Super Plossl 32mm you get a field of view of about 3.7° - more than seven times the diameter of the full moon! With its precisely figured parabolical (!) primary mirror the telescope is also well suited for high magnifications such as on the moon and the planets. Magnifications up to 200x are possible. CLAN - 91mm Clear Aperture Newtonian Telescope 91mm - No Secondary Mirror Obstruction
|
A Clear Aperture Newtonian telescope offers the image quality of a very good similar sized apochromatic refactor at a fraction of the cost!

The Best of Both Worlds: The Orion Clear Aperture Newtonian (CLAN) - A telescope that combines the advantages of Newtonian telescopes with those of very good refractor telescopes! Refractors have no secondary mirror, no spider vanes, nothing that is in the path of the light and might deteriorate the image. As a result they offer an excellent contrast and image sharpness. On the other hand all refractors suffer from more or less false colour - bright objects are surrounded by a coloured fringe. Only very expensive apochromatic refractors can solve this problem. Newtonian telescopes on the other hand have no false colour whatsoever, but a secondary mirror in the path of the light reduces contrast. The Solution: The Orion CLAN ( Clear Aperture Newtonian ) combines the advantages of both telescope designs. |

Optical Layout of the Orion CLAN You can see that the secondary mirror sits off center. As a result it causes no obstruction on the primary mirror. The asymmetrical primary mirror sits tilted in its mirror cell. It is made in the USA. With a normal parabolical mirror such a telescope design isn't possible. |
![]() The telescope is collimated like a normal Newtonian telescope. Both the primary and secondary mirrors sit in adjustable cells. |
