ED - Refractor 80/600mm
On the TS Astro-5 mount the ED80 is a very powerful instrument. We recommend it for astro-imaging without reservations. You can see the rayford focuser with locking thumbscrew and aluminium focus knobs. The star diagonal, eyepiece and tube rings are not included in the standard set. |

On the search for a most versatile and powerful instrument with particular focus on portability a compact ED refractor always was among the top options, only the relatively high price often stood in the way - until now! Advantages of a compact ED refractor: - extremely portable because of the short tube. The telescope is fully suited for airline travelling. - sharp and contrasty images on the moon and planets. The Focuser is made of metal. It works on the modern Crayford principle (zero image shift) and accepts both 2" and 1.25" accessories. A locking screw between the two focus knobs allows you to lock the focuser in position to avoid losing focus. A 1.25" adaptor with integrated T2 thread is always included. |

Star Pointer Red Dot (LED) Finderscope A Star Pointer red dot finderscope is available as an optional accessory for the Orion ED80. It fits directly into the quick exchange finder base that is integrated into the tube. A red dot (variable in brightness) shows you precisely where the Orion ED80 is pointed at. Just move the red dot to the position where you know your target to be and you will find the object in the eyepiece of your telescope as well. It's that simple. (further details) ........ Euro 28.- |

Hard Case for the Orion ED80 Refractor The Orion ED 80 was designed with the particular requirement of excellent portability in mind. This hard transport case is the logical consequence. Inside this stable, foam lined case the ED80 will survive bumpy transport and airline travels easily - you don't need to fear for your telecope's safety! The case has a length of 78cm, a width of 23cm and a height of 22cm. It offers enough space for the ED80, a star diagonal (even 2"), a number of eyepieces, a finderscope and a few other accessories.

An ED refractor with an aperture of a generous 100mm is generally considered a desirable but expensive all-purpose telescope. And now the last disadvantage has disappeared: Orion is offering an ED refractor with 100mm aperture at a price that had previously been thought impossible! Advantages of an ED refractor: - very portable. The telescope is even generally suited for airline travelling. - sharp and contrasty images on the moon and planets. The most important feature of this rich field refractor is its high portability. It fits into nearly any bag for travelling and once set up offers beautiful views of many objects within and outside of our solar system. The 80/400 is a true Rich Field Telescope! With a 25mm eyepiece you get a magnification of 16x, rendering a true field of fiew of over 3 degrees - more than six times the full moon's size! Astro Imaging: Another application of this telescope is as a 400mm Tele lens at f/5. With its integrated T2 thread and its generous and well made focuser you can easily attach and focus most common cameras for astro and nature photography. We particularly recommend the telescope for digital imaging - with its short focal length you can get very large fields of view. Focuser: A true 1.25" focuser for smooth focusing. A locking screw allows you to use heavy accessories without losing focus. The integrated T2 thread allows you to attach many common cameras easily for astro-imaging. The focuser is made of metal. An all-purpose short tube telescope. With a focal length of 600mm you get a better and more contrasty image of the planets and the moon than in typical 500mm no-compromise rich-field telescopes. At the same time the telescope is well suited for astro-imaging. With a focal ratio of f/6 you get bright images with a moderate field curvature, resulting in good quality images even with SLR cameras. Deep sky observations are a lot of fun with this telescope. With a respectable 100mm aperture and a focal length of "only" 600mm you get bright images and particularly large fields of view. Strolling through the milky-way and its gas nebulae becomes a joyful experience, particularly with a good 2" wide angle eyepiece. |
