TS - Laser Collimator
A simple, quick and precise way to collimate your Newtonian telescope.

 Newtonian Laser Collimator - 1.25" Barrel Diameter

A well made all metal laser collimator machined from 40mm massive aluminium.

Mechanical Quality
Since the Laser pointer itself has a very thin wall and is quite delicate the massive body of the Laser Collimator serves as protectice cover. Once aligned the laser will not lose its collimation. You still can collimate the laser itself using three alignment screws.

Barrel
The Newtonian laser collimator has a long 1.25" barrel and a machined rim for proper alignment. These very relevant parts of the laser's function are CNC machined.

Tips for Use
There are two situations that you should try to avoid.

One of them is to insert the laser at a slight angle to the optical axis of the telescope. This happens sometimes when you put in the laser from the side. For this reason we recommend to turn the telescope so that the focuser will face up. Then you insert the laser without using the locking screws of your focuser. The laser will then sit on its CNC machined edge.

The second thing to consider is the on-off switch. This is implemented using a thumbscrew. Once the laser is switched on please stop turning the thumbscrew! Damage might occur otherwise.

Rear Viewing Port
The viewing port allows you to see the progress of collimation from the rear of the telescope. You will not have to use the old "trial and error" method.

The Laser Itself Can Be Collimated
You do not have to rely on the factory's precision when it comes to the laser's own alignment. If you should notice that the laser dot forms a small circle when you turn the laser in the focuser you can adjust alignment yourself. Just remove the cap at the rear of the focuser and use the three alignment screws for collimation.
Please note: You should be very careful when doing this. The laser itself has a thin wall and can be damaged if you exert too much pressure.


The 45° angled view port allows you to see the collimation progress from the rear of the telescope. Even large Newtonians can thus be easily collimated by a single person.

 A Short Manual - How To Use The TS Laser Collimator:
 
Step 1: Collimation of Secondary Mirror (see right image)
After checking the orientation of the secondary mirror with your unaided eye just insert the laser collimator. Then use the collimation screws of the secondary mirror until the laser dot is centered on the primary mirror.

Turn the laser collimator so that you can see inside the 45° angled view port from the rear end of the telescope. Then use the primary mirror collimation screws until the returning laser dot hits the center of the laser.

Chesire Collimation Eyepiece 1.25"

The Chesire collimation eyepiece is the classical tool for Newtonian and refractor collimation. Light is reflected into the telescope through the 45° angled surface. When looking through the small porthole of the Chesire you will see the separate optical components and the reflections thereon. A perfectly aligned telescope will have all reflections centered around each other.

A crosshair at the front end of the Chesire helps to know where the center is.

The Chesire has a broad rim that is precisely machined so that it will sit in the focuser in perfect alignment - if this were not the case collimation would be imprecise.

For a refractor alignment is just as easy. You will see one reflection for each glass-to-air surface. If the telescope is perfectly aligned all reflections will be centered - in general such a perfect collimation is not necessary, though. It is enough if the reflections are inside one another, they need not be centered.

Binocular Viewers

Observing with both eyes means a significant gain in your eyes' ability to see faint details. At the same time you will be more relaxed and can observe for longer periods without straining your eyes. Binocular viewing is helpful both for lunar, planetary and deep sky observing.

A nice side effect is that negative effects of seeing conditions do no affect the image as much. When watching with both eyes objects seem larger than with only one eye.

The light is split 50/50 for each eye. Despite that you will not notice a loss in image brightness - the human brain is able to add the images seen with both eyes and even see more detail than would be possible with one eye.

Compensation of Extra Back Focus For TS Binoviewer - Glass Path Correctors

Some telescopes like Schmidt-Cassegrains, Maksutov-Cassegrains and some refractors have sufficient back focus to accept a binoviewer without problems. But many telescopes require a glass path corrector to compensate for the extra needed back-focus of a binoviewer. A typical example is the Newtonian telescope, but also many refractors.

How Do I Know If The TS Binoviewer Fits My Telescope?
- the TS Binoviewer has an optical length of 116mm
- center an object that is sufficiently far away (at least several hundred meters, preferably more.
- move the focuser as far inside as possible.
- take a long focal length 1.25" eyepiece and move it away from the focuser slowly, holding it in your hand. Try to look through the eyepiece. With a little practice you will see an unfocused image.
- at some point you will get a fairly focused image. (Extension tubes help you in finding that point if you have them.)
- measure the distance between the 1.25" stop of the eyepiece and the focuser.
- If this distance is approx. 120mm or more you will not need a glass path corrector. Please note: If you want to use a star diagonal you need to account for that diagonal's optical length as well!

Binocular viewers often require lots of extra back focus. Many telescopes such as Newtonians and many refractors do not have sufficient back focus to accomodate binoviewers. For those cases we offer two Glass Path Correctors that will extend the focal plane further out and will allow you to reach focus in such telescopes.

Ronchi - Eyepiece 1.25"

 1.25" Ronchi Eyepiece - A Tool For Testing Telescope Optics

The Ronchi Eyepiece is used like a normal eyepiece. It is inserted into the 1.25" clamp of your telescope and then "focused" with the focuser. The only difference is that you look at the image from both sides of the focus.

You will see several "bars" that describe the surface of the optics. Theoretically perfect optics (even though we haven't seen such optics before) have perfectly straight ronchi lines. The lines can be curved, distorted, ..., always hinting to various different optical aberrations.

Warning: While it is easy for everyone to see optical aberrations with the Ronchi eyepiece a lot of experience is required to judge how strong those aberrations are.

The Ronchi eyepiece has 10 lines per mm.

Observing Chairs

Success in astronomical observations depends largely on observing comfort. This includes warm clothing, good accessories and also a comfortable observing position! Normal chairs are barely suited for this - they are either too high or too low, to large or not suited for outdoor use. You need to be able to adjust the height of the chair easily.

TS Observing Chair

Good quality observing chair made of wood. The seat itself is cushioned using a waterproof material. The seat is made of good plywood so that it won't break.

Wood is a professional and robust material. Unlike metal it can be touched at cold temperatures without freezing your fingers.

For this reason we have chosen wood for the TS Observing Chair. Good workmanship and good materials are the key to its excellent function.

Telegizmo Telescope Covers

Wer möchte nicht ohne Sorgen sein Teleskop mal draussen stehen lassen, um sich zu erfrischen oder um das Teleskop einfach mal schön eingenordet stehen zu lassen, z.B. auf der Terasse oder im Garten. Orion Guide Scope Rings

For amateur astronomers who already own a suitable guide scope.

The guide scope rings are made of aluminium and accept guide scopes up to a tube diameter of approx. 100mm (inside diameter of the tube rings: 105mm). The set consists of two guide scope rings with 3 thumbscrews each. The rings have one 1/4" thread in their base. Screws for attaching them to a standard dovetail plate are included.

Dovetail Plates for the Orion Guide Scope Rings - PS 21 and PS 32
The dovetail plates offer an easy adaptation of the tube rings to various telescopes. The guide scope rings are attached at either end of the dovetail plate. The setup can than be attached to a piggy-back camera holder or parallel to the primary telescope using our TS Duomount (see recommended products below).

The TS Guide Scope Rings automatically come with a Vixen style dovetail plate. It is compatible with GP / EQ mounts.

Microfiber Cleaning Cloth for Optics

No matter how careful you are, with time your telescope, spotting scope, binoculars or other optical gear will get a layer of dust on them and maybe worse like fat stains or fingerprints. Then you need some means to clean the optics carefully without causing damage.

The Baader microfiber cleaning cloth, especially used in conjunction with the Optical Wonder cleaning fluid, carefully cleans optics without causing the feared microscopic scratches that can happen so easily.

Important: We recommend to clean optical parts as rarely as possible! Too frequent cleaning may still result in a degradation of optical quality. Some optics have a soft coating and are then generally not suited for cleaning of any kind!

Optical Wonder Cleaning Fluid

Baader's Optical Wonder universal optics cleaning fluid was designed specifically for cleaning telescope optics and other delicate optical instruments. It removes dirt and fat from the optics without attacking the coating of the optics (soft coatings without protective coating excepted).

The fluid is Zeiss-APQ tested! It is a worthwhile investment for proper care of your telescope and accessories.

Tip for Use:

Clean Pen - Cleaning Kit

Clean Pen - a professional cleaning tool for optical surfaces....

With the Clean Pen you can remove dust and stains from small optical surfaces, e.g. from eyepieces or tele lenses. A Clean Pen should be part of every eyepiece case!
 
Cleaning Spray - can be refilled
One end of the Clean Pen contains a special cleaning spray. It will help to remove stains and fat (not unlike the Baader Magical Wonder spray above)

Retractable Cleaning Brush
The other side of the Clean Pen contains a retractable brush with fine hairs to remove dust and to clean the optical surface after applying the fluid with the spray.

After use the brush can be retracted so that it is itself protected.
