Which Pair of Binoculars to Choose?
Telescope-Service offers several different Giant Binoculars that all share the same basics: Good image quality, good coating, good mechanics, and especially an outstanding value for money. So how to pick the binoculars that are best suited for you?
All giant binoculars need to be put on a sufficiently stable tripod. Since good tripods also cost good money the weight of the binoculars will also influence how expensive and heavy the tripod needs to be.
We have found that this factor - and this factor alone - is probably the reason why the TS 20x90 is surprisingly little popular. Most customers tend to either buy the 20x80 or the larger 25x100 rather than the 20x90. In our opinion this does no justice to the excellent image quality and observing fun offered by the 20x90. For this reason we have decided to make the 20x90 more attractive: We have cut its price down to 199 Euros - only a few Euros more than the 20x80. Check it out! TS 20x80 Triplet - Superior Image Sharpness
The TS 20x80 triplet sets new standards in its class. A robust high-performance binocular for demanding birdwatchers as well as a fantastic rich field instrument for amateur astronomers. The TS 20x80 triplet is an advanced version of the classical 20x80 with far superior optical and mechanical properties.
At a weight of only 2.4kgs the 20x80 triplet can still be considered a lightweight binocular and is therefore properly mounted on quality photo tripods. The integrated tripod adaptor allows for simple adaptation to any photo tripod without the need for further adaptors. Just set it up within a few seconds and begin joyful observations of both wildlife and the night sky! At 20x the dissolving power is excellent, at the same time image brightness is still very high due to the large aperture and the high quality full broadband multicoating.
Superior Image Quality Through The Innovative Triplet Technology:
Standard binocular objectives consist of two lenses each. The new three lens design of the TS 20x80 triplet allows for superior correction without the need for expensive ED substrates. Successfully introduced into the telescope market years ago we now offer the superior triplet objectives in the great world of quality binoculars.
Less field curvature - the image field is quite flat, there are no disturbing distortions
Better colour correction - in strong-contrast objects you will notice a drastically reduced blue fringe, further enhancing contrast and image sharpness
Better sharpness over the entire field of view - three lenses allow for better correction over the entire field of view; stars remain small pinpoints even at the edge of the FOV

Even if the objective is perfect a poor coating can destroy the image, killing contrast. All our binoculars feature the best multicoating on all optical surfaces. The image is noticably brighter and contrast is much better than with simple coatings. Often this will mark the difference between discerning a small detail and failing to see it at all.

TS 20x90 - The Ultimate Light Gathering Power
The TS 20x90 offers an image quality and correction normally found in much more expensive binoculars. Mechanical quality is up to the same high standard - the central mounting bar sets a new standard in this class of binoculars.
Using the TS 20x90
Due to its enormous light gathering power the TS 20x90 is especially suited for amateur astronomers and those birdwatchers who are in need for a bright, clear image under bad lighting conditions. The relatively large exit pupil of 4.25mm and the full broadband multicoating provide bright and contrasty views even in the twilight.

TS 20x88 W - with Exchangable Eyepieces and Comfortable 90° Angled View
Triplet Objective for Reduced Colour Aberration and Superior Image Sharpness

The TS 88mm binoculars are an excellent choice both for demanding terrestrial observation and high-performance astronomical use. The binoculars are shipped in a beautiful foam-lined case - this will effectively prevent damage during transport.
With its 90° angled viewing position observations of objects high above the horizon are much more comfortable than in a straight vision binocular. Amateur astronomers and birdwatchers alike will value this enormous advantage!
Another big advantage is the exchangable eyepieces - you can use three different magnifications from 20x to 32x (standard package: only 20x, other magnifications available as an option). The low magnification is excellently suited for large fields of view while the higher magnifications will show additional details. |

Astronomical Observations
Astronomical observations were the key use for which this binocular was designed. This is where the 90° angled view means the biggest advantage - most objects in the sky are very far above the horizon.
Under dark skies you will be able to see the North America nebula (see image below). In the summer this object is nearly in the zenith - almost out of reach with straight vision binoculars. |
Mounting Options:
At a respectable weight of 6.5kgs the 20x88W needs a solid base. You should use a strong photographical tripod at least. For astronomical use and other uses where you wish to point the binoculars high above the horizon we recommend our TS Panoramic mount. You will find more details on these mounting options below.
The binoculars feature a standardised 1/4" thread which makes them compatible to most photographical tripods.
Triplet Lenses:
Most binoculars have a two-lens objective. With two lenses the colour correction is already much better than in very cheap single lens designs.
Our TS 20x88W has a triplet objective for even better colour correction and better sharpness throughout the entire field of view.
This model is advertised as "semi-apochromat" in the United States due to its superior colour correction. We agree!

The Advantage of the 90° Angled View
Compared with normal straight-vision binoculars a 90° viewing position means much more comfort and less strain for your neck. You will be able to observe objects high above the horizon for hours on end - no strain to the muscles of your neck will occur.
The result: Simply more fun! A nice side-effect: Viewing comfort strongly influences how much you will be able to see with any optical instrument. You will see more details than with other, slightly larger straight-vision binoculars. |

Exchangable Eyepieces
One of the major disadvantages of many binoculars is that you are unable to change the magnification. A free choice of magnifications will allow you to see more details - in the feathers of a bird, on a distant mountain, or in an astronomical object.
Low powers are perfectly suited for large fields of view, but sometimes you will need higher magnifications.
We offer two additional magnifications with our 26x and 32x eyepieces. The eyepieces were designed specifically for this binocular - top optical performance is the result.
You can buy these eyepieces separately or choose the Deluxe package (all three magnifications already included).
Beautiful Foam-Lined Case
Easy to carry and beautiful to look at this transport case is perfectly suited to prevent damage during transport. The foam-fitting is made for the binoculars and three pairs of eyepieces.
With this case the TS 2088W is suitable for air travels.
Connecting the Binocular to a Tripod
A 1/4" standard adaptor is integrated into the body of the binocular. You will be able to use most standard tripods as long as they are strong enough to hold it.
In addition you will be able to attach the TS 20x88W to other mounts like our TS Panoramic mount (see below) for more observing comfort. |

For astronomical use we recommend our TS Panoramic mount which allows very smooth movements in all directions, the binocular is always perfectly balanced. With the Panoramic mount it will be no problem to point the binoculars even at the zenith. |

The TS Gigant is one of its own kind - its robust design and clever features set it apart from all other binoculars we know! The Semi APO objective enhances colour correction compared with standard objectives - field correction is excellent.
A Large Field of View Through Large Prisms
The oversized prisms guarantee a full illumination over the entire 1.25" field of view. This means that you can use practically all 1.25" eyepieces without restrictions.
Compare yourself: Other binoculars have a much smaller field of view (example: approx. 2.8° with a 32mm Super Plossl eyepiece), you get the impression of looking through a long tube. The TS Gigant offers a larger field of view and - given the right eyepieces - a wonderful wide field effect unique in its class.
1.25" Focusers for all Standard 1.25" Eyepieces
In the new model of the TS Gigant you can use all standard 1.25" eyepieces. Even extreme wide-angle eyepieces (like TeleVue Nagler) can be used. They only need to have a sufficiently long eye relief (more than 10mm recommended) for comfortable binocular viewing. Even extremely wide angle eyepieces will have no trouble reaching focus.
Highly Robust Through Two-In-One Body
The TS Gigant has a single body for both objectives. As a result miscollimation is practically impossible and overall stability is increased greatly.
Weatherproof and Fog Proof - Nitrogen Filled
Even under damp environmental conditions the TS Gigant is practically fog proof. This is caused by a nitrogen filling. |

Astronomical Use
With an enormous aperture of 100mm and the comfortable 45° angled view the TS Gigant is the perfect companion for a joyful "space walk" through the milky way. By using 1.25" standard eyepieces you can use the Gigant for nearly every conceivable astronomical observations.
Faint gas nebulae, galaxies, comets... can be seen as delicate specks floating in the middle of the surrounding stars. Bright nebulae and galaxies stand out three-dimensionally with plenty of beautiful details to be savoured. We recommend long focal length eyepieces such as the TS SuperPlossl 32mm. By using nebular filters you can drastically enhance visibility of details in gas nebulae.
Moon and the Planets... With its high quality semi APO objectives with a focal length of 595mm you can even use the TS Gigant for planetary observing. Magnifications up to 120x can be achieved easily. With the proper filters to further reduce false colour you can even go up to about 170x with a good contrast and image sharpness.
Terrestrial Use:
Earth-bound observations become a unique experience with the TS Gigant binoculars. You seem to be standing mere metres from the observed object while in reality it is several hundred metres away! The nitrogen filling makes the binoculars largely weatherproof. The exchangable eyepieces make the binoculars fit for any observing needs. |
A Proper Travelling Suitcase For Your Binocular
The TS Gigant binoculars may not be lightweight, but they are still more portable than many "small" telescopes.
The binocular itself features a strong handle in its centre of gravity - you can easily carry it without aid. At the same time you will have no difficulties attaching the binocular to its mount.
For even better portability each TS Gigant comes in a beautiful, foam-fitted travelling suitcase. You may even use the suitcase for your journeys, leaving the TS Gigant behind - but you will regret not having it with you very soon! The suitcase and foam fitting turn the TS Gigant into a fully air-travel capable observing companion - the binoculars are safely stored even during bumpy transport. |

Oversized Prisms
The prisms of the TS Gigant are slightly oversized to always offer a full field illumination in any eyepiece. You can check this yourself with a simple test:
Look through the front objective lenses. You can then see a bright circle in the center. This circle should be round without any obstruction in the path. Especially on wide angle binoculars this isn't always the case. In the TS Gigant you will see no obstruction in the optical path. (see image to the left) |

A robust and functional mount for terrestrial use as well as astronomical observations
A large instrument like the TS Gigant requires a very strong tripod and a mount that can be moved smoothly in both axes. Any normal camera or video tripod is overloaded.
Therefore we are offering our TS Gigant with a very good fork mount (version TS Gigant AZ). Our massive hardwood tripod forms the sturdy base for this mount. The tripod is of course weatherproof and absorbs vibrations. This in particular is an important basis for successful and comfortable observing.
The aluminium fork mount allows you to move the binoculars left-right and up-down smoothly and lock it in any position. You will reach any point from slightly below the horizon up to the zenith (90° up). No matter whether you are watching a sailing ship on the horizon or a celestial object you will have no trouble pointing at it and tracking it.
You can adjust the observing height between approx. 130cm and approx. 185cm. Thus you can set the TS Gigant up comfortably for any observing condition.
The weight of the tripod and fork mount is 11kgs. This means that the whole setup is still quite portable.

TS 25x100 - 45° - A True Giant by Telescope-Service
The TS Gigant binoculars are a class of their own. A very robust design and superior optical quality set a new standard in this class of instruments. The semi-apochromatic objectives offer drastically enhanced colour correction.
Large Field of View Through Oversized Prisms
At 25x the eyepieces of the TS 25x100 Gigant offer a field of view of 65° - with proper illumination to the edge. This is made possible by oversized BAK-4 prisms.
Compare yourself: Other 100mm binoculars offer much smaller fields of view - you get the impression of looking into a tunnel. The TS Gigant offers a wider field of view and true wide angle views - the only binocular in its class to do so.
Night-Sky Use:
With an enormous aperture of 100mm and the comfortable 45° angled view the TS Gigant is the perfect companion for a joyful "space walk" through the milky way. Faint gas nebulae can be seen as delicate specks floating in the middle of the surrounding stars. Bright nebulae and galaxies stand out three-dimensionally with plenty of beautiful details to be savoured. Jupiter and his moons are another beautiful, plastical object well within the reach of this outstanding binocular.
Terrestrial Use:
Earth-bound observations become a unique experience with the TS Gigant binoculars. You seem to be standing mere metres from the observed object while in reality it is several hundred metres away! The nitrogen filling makes the binoculars largely weatherproof. |

A Proper Travelling Suitcase For Your Binocular
The TS Gigant binoculars may not be lightweight, but they are still more portable than many "small" telescopes.
The binocular itself features a strong handle in its centre of gravity - you can easily carry it without aid. At the same time you will have no difficulties attaching the binocular to its mount.
For even better portability each TS Gigant comes in a beautiful, foam-fitted travelling suitcase. You may even use the suitcase for your journeys, leaving the TS Gigant behind - but you will regret not having it with you very soon! The suitcase and foam fitting turn the TS Gigant into a fully air-travel capable observing companion - the binoculars are safely stored even during bumpy transport. |

Mounting the TS Gigant for Terrestrial Use - Picture to the Left
A large binocular like the TS Gigant requires a sturdy tripod and a smooth, heavy mount. Common photographical tripods will be overstrained.
For terrestrial use we offer a very solid mount, allowing for precise and smooth movements in both azimuth and altitude. You can point the binocular up to 60° above the horizon. There is a slow-motion control in altitude.
The heavy hardwood tripod is well-made and is adjustable in height between 70 and 120cm. All parts are designed for a long life-cycle, the tripod will last for many years to come. At a weight of 6.5kgs the tripod is still easily portable, especially considering the unique carrying strap.
In order to remove the binoculars from the tripod you just need to unlock one thumbscrew. Thus setup is achieved in a matter of seconds. At the same time the Gigant is held tightly and safely.

Mounting the TS Gigant for Astronomical Use - Picture to the Left
Nothing beats this mount when it comes to comfort and ease of use. Just point the binoculars into whatever direction you want to point it without fiddling with locking screws. The binoculars are always perfectly balanced. There are enough power reserves - no shaky views on windy nights.
Setup takes only one minute with the quick exchange coupling. Along with the ease of setup this also allows for proper balancing of the binocular.
