Variable Colour and Polarizing Filter - TS CC

Top image: variable colour function of the TS CC1 filter.
Lower image: variable polarizer function.

Only one TS CC filter was used for all of the above images. This shows its remarkable versatility.

The available colours and shades of grey are freely adjustable.

We are proud to introduce a sensational new product: The TS Variable Colour and Polarizing Filter. The filter replaces more than eight other filters in function. You will need less filters, and consequently have less filters to carry around or buy in the first place. The filter can be adjusted freely so you get a very broad variety of uses.

1) Variable Polarizing Filter For Reduction of Glare and Image Brightness
used for observing the moon and planets. Transmission approximately between 15 and 80%.

2) Variable Colour Filter For Suppression of False Colour in Refractors
- All refractor telescopes have to a varying degree a certain colored fringe around bright objects. This fringe generally has a yellowish or violet coloration. The TS CC can be adjusted to match the telescope, eyepiece, object and observing conditions to suppress this false color. At the same time the coloration of the image remains as minimal as possible.

3) Variable Colour Filter for Boosting Contrast on the Planets
The TS CC filter is particularly suited for boosting contrast on Jupiter and Saturn, both of which being planets with a generally yellowish surface color, as well as Mars and Venus which react favorably to a blue/purple setting of the filter.

4) Usable in Nearly All Telescopes
- the filter is simply screwed into the 1.25" filter thread of your eyepiece or camera adaptor. It can be adjusted to optimally match each telescope.

Polarizing Filters and Neutral Filters for 1.25" Eyepieces

With these filters you can reduce the brightness of an object - usually the moon or a planet - in order to enhance the ability to see fine details. The filters are screwed into the eyepiece's filter thread. There is no distracting colour like in cheaper green moon filters.

You can combine the neutral filters and the polarizers with TS colour filters (see description above). With their thin metal bodies there will be no vignetting - even with long focal length 1.25" eyepieces.

Recommended Use:
On bright objects like the Moon or the planets (but also during terrestrial observations) you will find that it is necessary to reduce the brightness in order to see further details. In large telescopes observing comfort will rise drastically - you will not feel blinded.

Transmission means how much of an object's light passes the filter. 25% means that one quarter of the light will pass the filter, three quarters are blocked.

IR Cut Filter
for CCD imaging
Interference Colour Filters
for CCD

astronomicsuhc.jpg (11515 Byte)
Astronomik UHC Filter

These filters are among the best nebular filters available. They suppress any annoying stray light, letting pass only the specific O-III (planetary nebulae), H-Alpha and H-Beta (emission nebulae, like the North America Nebula) spectral lines. With these filters you will see that successful Deep-Sky observations can also be made near cities.

Furthermore the filters are very robust. You may try to clean them even with less than perfect cleaning methods without damaging them. While other filters might be scratched the Astronomik filters will still be in a perfect condition. Also, the filters do not age, you can use them for many years without them showing any less (or worse: more) than on the first night.

Quite frequently "fast" telescopes suffer from a loss of light when using nebular filters. Astronomik has managed to reduce this effect to a minimum. The UHC filter is more versatile than the O-III filter and can be used successfully in small telescopes (starting around 80mm with some objects).

astronomicsgruen.jpg (11277 Byte) Astronomik O-III Filter

The Astronomik O-III filters are of the same high quality as the well-known UHC filters. They supplement the UHC's ideally. When it comes to planetary nebulae, or gas nebulae like the Veil nebula, Astronomik O-III filters are most effective.

While UHC filters can be used on small-aperture telescopes we recommend the use of O-III filters in larger telescopes (200mm aperture and larger, 150mm with some objects). If you have such a big telescope, though, nothing will surpass the contrast you get with the O-III on countless emission nebulae and planetary nebulae.

clearsky.jpg (3450 Byte) Astronomik CLS Filter

This "Minus City Light" filter is similar in function to the UHC filters. But they are not as narrow and will let more light pass the filter. This makes the CLS filters especially interesting for the following uses:

- - small aperture telescopes (starting from 60mm) or use with extremely high magnifications, where the UHC swallows too much light.
- drastic reduction of false colour in refractor telescopes
- contrast gain with many objects within our solar system

The filter will not enhance contrast as much as the UHC and O-III filters do, instead the CLS is more versatile and can be used on more objects and smaller telescopes. The filter lets pass H-alpha, H-beta and O-III.

The CLS filter is especially interesting for astrophotographical purposeses.
Here the effect is similar to the much more expensive Lumicon Deep Sky filter. Exposure times increase by a factor of between 2.2 and 2.7x, background illumination is reduced by 70%.

hbeta.jpg (5184 Byte) Astronomik H - Beta Filter

The Astronomik H-Beta filter is a true narrowband filter, having a bandwidth of only 14nm around the H-beta center wavelength (489.1nm). You get extremely good results with hydrogen nebulae like the California Nebula or the famous Horsehead Nebula.

Additionally the filter is very interesting for photographical experiments, especially using CCD equipment.

Used with a 250mm (10") aperture telescope the filter will - very dark sky background provided - show the Horsehead Nebula in its characteristic shape. The H-Beta filter is a perfect mate for the UHC and O-III filters.

halpha.jpg (3082 Byte) Astronomik H - Alpha

The Astronomic H-Alpha filter has a very small bandwidth of only 15nm around the center wavelength of 656.3nm. H-Alpha is the most common wavelength of hydrogen nebulae. The filter is used on the well-known H-II objects, the red emission nebulae.

This is a photographical filter. If you use a CCD camera or a hyper-sensitived TP-2415 film in combination with the Astronomik H-Alpha filter you will get an extreme contrast gain. Even from light-polluted areas like large cities you can take extremely high contrast images of objects like the North America Nebula.

Important note: All Astronomik filters, including the H-Alpha filter, are true interference filters, not simple colour filters. This means much more precise transmission curves and consequently less unwanted and more wanted light.

The Astronomik H-Alpha filter is not a solar filter! Do not mistake it with the much more expensive Coronado filters.

Astronomik IR Cut Filter

An important tool for CCD imaging. The transmission of visible light is 97% with maximum transmission at H-Alpha (656.3nm). All infrared light is cut out completely up to over 1200nm. The filter has a dielectric coating, is scratch-resistent and doesn't age. You need this filter whenever there is any glass element (objective lenses, barlow lens, corrector lenses, eyepieces) between the camera and the object.

farbfilter.gif (16846 Byte) Astronomik Interference Colour Filters - for CCD Imaging

Interference Colour filters are especially suited for CCD imaging. You can take impressive, true-colour composit images with monochrome CCD cameras such as the ATiK cameras. Used on the moon and the planets these filters will make for very contrasty images.

Each Astronomik colour filter blocks infrared light. That way you do not need the otherwise obligatory IR cut filter. Transmission curves are very precise and far more efficient than common colour filters. Excellent transmission of desired wavelengths is the result.
