These are among our most popular instruments - the MTO telelenses are very versatile and offer an incredible performance per money spent. The 100/1000mm MTO can be used both visually and photographically without reservations., the other models also work but are a bit less flexible.

These instruments are tested and have relaxed mirrors and extended back-focus for use of many accessories.

MTO 1000 with optional T2 adaptor. You can see two of the four tripod connection threads.

The MTO 1000 is a classical Maksutov-Cassegrain with an additional field flattening lens for photography. As a result you will get a better field illumination and image sharpness towards the edge of the field.

Visually magnifications up to approx. 150x are possible.

Further Information:

The Focus Mechanism works through a focusing collar that moves the entire rear half of the tele lens in relation to the front half. The mechanism is practically free of image shift and has several big advantages:
- there are no moving parts at the rear. No cheap focuser with image shift is needed. The camera or eyepieces are firmly held in positon.
- we modify the MTO 1000 tele lenses to extend the back focus. As a result you can use a multitude of accessories, even those with a long optical length

The Retractable Dewcap effectively prevents the formation of dew under most conditions. Fully retracted the MTO is very short for transport.

MTO 1000 - Available Variants

We offer two basic variants of the MTO1000. The MTO 1000 Tele is a simple tele lens. Back focus has been extended, but no eyepiece adaptations are included.
The MTO 1000 Spotting Version is a telescope with eyepiece and star diagonal, but without a mount or tripod.
The MTO 1000 on TS AZ and SkyView are complete telescopes with mount and tripod.

Scope of delivery: three filters, carry case, MTO1000

The MTO 1000 was designed as a good quality but affordable tele lens for photography. It offers a good image sharpness, a very long focal length and a moderate focal ratio.

The MTO 1000 Tele is warmly recommended for nature photographers and even for astro-imaging.

The integrated field flattening lens offers a larger corrected field than is possible with a classical Maksutov. A 45mm field is fully corrected.

MTO 1000 - Spotting Scope

The 1.25" visual back is included in the scope of delivery.

The MTO 1000 Spott is a compact spotting scope for nature observers, target shooters and hunters. It also serves as a good quality compact telescope for amateur astronomers. The typical Russian rigidity of design means that it survives even somewhat careless transport. In addition to its good visual performance you can of course use this spotting scope also as a tele lens for photography (see MTO 1000 Tele). This makes the MTO superbly versatile.

Recommended Magnifications:
With the proper eyepieces (you can use standard 1.25" eyepieces) you can reach magnifications from approx. 25x to 150x. Here you will find a selection of recommended eyepieces and accessories.

Camera Tripods

Option for Terrestrial Viewing:
The standard scope of delivery includes a 90° star diagonal. This diagonal offers high contrast images for astronomical applications and should be always used for nightsky use. But for terrestrial observing the mirror-reversed image might be distracting. You can get a 45° erecting prism for terrestrially correct images instead of the star diagonal if you prefer this! Please let us know at the time of your order!

Upgrade For Photography:
The MTO 1000 Spot can of course also be used as a tele lens like the MTO 1000 Tele. For most cameras you will need the proper adaptors. Further Information on the MTO 1000 Tele version. MTO 1000 - Spotting Scope on Alt-Azimuth Mount & Tripod

The MTO on the TS AZ mount is ideally suited for birdwatchers and nature observers. You can track flying planes or ships on the horizon. There are slow-motion controls for both axes.

One particular advantage of this mount is the quick release device - you can mount and take off the MTO within just a few seconds.

MTO-1000 Accessories

1.25" and T2 Adaptor

A 1.25" visual back for the MTO with an additional T2 thread for further adaptations.

You can use standard 1.25" accessories which are firmly held in position by two thumbscrews.

The T2 thread allows you to attach standard SLR cameras by means of a T-ring. This combined adaptor causes some vignetting, though.

With optional T2 extension tubes you can even use this adaptor for eyepiece projection for higher photographical magnifications.

T2 Adaptor for MTO

This adaptor has an M-42x1 female thread and a T2 male thread. It fits directly on the MTO 1000, MTO 500 and MTO 300. You can then use standard T-rings for attaching SLR and DSLR cameras. The adaptor is made to minimize vignetting (i.e. black edges on the image).

0.5x Focal Reducer For CCD Cameras And Webcams .... Doubles the field of view and drastically reduces exposure times.

The ATiK focal reducer halves the focal length of the MTO. As a result the field of view is doubled and exposure times are reduced. The effective focal length with the MTO 1000 is about 500mm.

L-Bracket For Mounting The MTO 1000

Massive aluminium L-Bracket for attaching the MTO 1000 to many different mounts. Adaptations are available for most mounts, the L-Bracket will fit the SkyView and Synta EQ-3 directly. We can even offer adaptations on heavy camera and video tripods on request.

Unlike standard adaptation the MTO is fixed using two 1/4" screws 90° apart instead of just one. We recommend this L-Bracket for adaptation whenever you have to point the MTO at a steep angle upwards or to the side where the standard adaptation would be too weak.

With the L-Bracket you can use the MTO as a guide scope or as a separate telescope in its own right.

The L-Bracket is also very helpful if you want to attach a finderscope such as the Baader Sky Surfer III. The aluminium surfaces of the bracket offer plenty of places where a finderscope can be easily attached.

An adaptation with tube rings is not recommended. The optics are easily pinched if you put too much pressure on the body of the MTO. Besides the front part of the MTO is moved when you operate the focus mechanism, so most adaptations don't work anyway.

In our experience the L-Bracket is the most universal and secure mounting option for the MTO 1000.

Aperture Solar Filter For The MTO 1000

These aperture solar filters are screwed into the front end of the MTO 1000. There is no risk that the filter can fall off by accident. The AstroSolar filter sheet (see link to the left for further details) is known for its excellent optical properties.

	TS Barlow Lens 2x The TS 2x Barlow Lens doubles magnification with any given 1.25" eyepiece. It is very useful for attaining higher magnifications with longer focal length eyepieces. As a result you get a longer eye relief and therefore more observing comfort. Further Information
	Star Diagonal 90° and Erecting Prism 45° The star diagonal is used for a much more comfortable observing position without straining your neck. It offers an erect but mirror reversed image. It is recommended for astronomical observing. The 45° erecting prism offers a terrestrially correct view (right side up, non reversed). It is recommended for use of the MTO 1000 as a spotting scope. 	Micro-Focuser The MTO 1000 focus mechanism works by turning a large focusing collar which moves the front part of the tele in relation to the rear part. As a result the tele is very versatile and accepts many accessories, but some people have problems finding exact focus. The Micro-Focuser is the solution for that problem. It is used like an eyepiece, i.e. it is put into the 1.25" visual back of the MTO Spott. The star diagonal or eyepiece is in turn put into the micro-focuser. The focuser offers a very smooth focus motion and is a warmly recommended accessory for the MTO 1000. Further Information

The MTO 500 is a high resolution Maksutov tele lens with a large and well corrected photographical field (up to and including 35mm film format). Most of all it is very compact given its extreme focal length of 500mm - it can easily be carried around.

The MTO 500 can be used for nature photography. It has a correcting lens for a larger photographical field than would be possible with a regular Maksutov design.

MTO 500 - Visual Use

An adaptation is possible using a Barlow lens to extend the focal plane further out, but that means a higher (approx. 3x) magnification...... see : Recommended Accessories

Low Profile 1.25" Visual Back

With this adaptor you can use 1.25" accessories on the MTO 500. Due to the shorter back focus of the MTO 500 you cannot use star diagonals, erecting prisms or focal reducers, though.

More Recommended Accessories

The MTO 300 is a very compact high definition telelens which fully illuminates the 35mm film / chip format. With only about 10cm length the MTO 300 fits into nearly any camera bag - a huge contrast to the often unwieldy conventional telelenses.

The MTO 300 allows you to take beautiful nature photos. 300mm focal length is a very frequently used size both for conventional and digital SLR cameras.

At f/4.5 exposure times are quite short, so you can use the MTO 300 even in relatively dark lighting conditions.

Like the larger MTOs the 300mm tele uses a field flattening lens for better image sharpness over the entire 35mm film format.
