1.25" and 2" Solar Diagonals - Made in Russia Herrschel prisms (a.k.a. Solar Prisms) are made for high contrast solar observing with refractor telescopes. Eyepieces are held firmly in position using a compression ring. This compression ring prevents scratches and holds heavy accessories securely. Approximately 95% of the sunlight are reflected away, the rest can be used for observing. Variable polarizers or strong neutral density filters are used for dimming the sunlight to a comfortable level. We warmly recommend the Baader Solar Continuum Filter for enhancing contrast ....... Further Information on the Solar Continuum Filter For visual use we always recommend the IR Cut Filter. It blocks the intense infrared and ultraviolet light that passes the solar prism and might cause eye injury by extended exposure. Advantages of Solar Prisms: Solar prisms are widely regarded as the highest contrast tool for solar observing. At the same time exposure times for astro-imaging are reduced because of the higher light transmission of a solar prism.
