The Vixen 114mm Newtonian from Vixen is a much recommended first telescope. Contrary to other small Newtonians it has a far oversized equatorial mount that can be upgraded to full astrophotographical capabilities and will also carry much larger instruments with good stability. For further information on the GP-E mount please see here. The Newtonian has good quality optics and consequently offers sharp and contrasty images of both planets and moon as well as of many deep sky objects such as gas nebulae and galaxies. Astro Imaging

The Vixen 150mm Newtonian is an attractive medium sized instrument for all astronomical applications, ranging from serious planetary and lunar observing to visual deep sky use and even high grade astro-imaging. Astro Imaging This powerful Newtonian with its focal ratio of f/5 is a very powerful instrument for astro-imaging. Exposure times are very short. We offer adaptations for most common cameras. .
For amateurs who plan primarily visual use of this telescope we recommend the GP-E mount. Later a polar scope and a dual axis motor drive can be fitted for astro-imaging.

Vixen has developed a no-compromise deep-sky Newtonian, the R200 SS. This telescope combines high grade optics (made with a very special coating procedure to achieve excellent results) and a very generous aperture of 200mm for an easy to use, compact and powerful deep sky instrument. On the Vixen fork mount it is an ideal alternative to classical Dobsonians with a much more comfortable observing height.

Like the popular Schmidt-Cassegrain the Vixen VMC is a true all purpose telescope. Despite its long focal length the tube is only about 50cm long. As a result the instrument is very portable. With its large aperture of 200mm the VMC collects enough light for serious visual and photographical applications both on the planets and on the deep sky. The VMC has a very good contrast. It is excellently suited for observing globular clusters, double stars as well as the notoriously demanding planets. With its open tube the telescope cools down quicker than an SCT or classical Maksutov-Cassegrain. Astro Imaging Another strong point of this telescope is its capability for high grade astro imaging. The meniscus correcting lens offers a large corrected field. With the optional reducer you get shorter exposure times. The basic configuration already contains a piggy-back camera holder. You can then take photos both through the telescope and using a tele lens parallel to the main instrument, or you can take the VMC200 for guiding while the camera sits on top.
For visual use the low cost setup on Astro-5 is absolutely sufficient. The GP-E offers better upgradability for astro-imaging. The GP-D2 is a powerful astrophotographical mount that can be upgraded with dual axis motor drives and other accessories for long exposure astro imaging.

A compact GoTo Cassegrain with 110mm aperture and 1035mm focal length

Vixen's introduction of the Skypod has made available an attractive new telescope concept. Both the mount and the telescope offer several interesting features: A particularly easy to use controller Telescope and mount form separate units. You can remove the telescope from the mount with a quick release saddle plate. The controller is integrated into the mount. You can take it off for remote control, but you can always put it back for save storage and transport. This means that for transport you can avoid all the separate small parts that are otherwise easily lost. |
