The 102/1000mm Fraunhofer achromat is currently one of the most popular telescope types for amateur astronomers. It combines sufficient light-gathering power to view nebulae and galaxies, a moderate false colour and high contrast for watching planets and nebulae, and a relatively short focal ratio for successful astro-imaging.

Vixen's 102M refractor is a premium sample of such a refractor. Its optical and mechanical quality are exceptional.

Astro Imaging

Neo Achromats

Neo Achromats feature a special optical layout for improved photographical performance:

Classical Fraunhofer type refractors suffer from two typical drawbacks: False colour and field curvature. The "faster" a telescope of this type, the more distracting its secondary spectrum and the stronger the field curvature. As a result performance of this type of telescopes is limited for astro-imaging.

Vixen developed the Neo Achromats to compensate for these problems and offer a telescope specifically suited for demanding astro-imaging. A second group of lenses flattens the field and reduces false colour compared with Fraunhofer refractors of the same focal ratio.

The Vixen Neo Achromat 120mm is a very attractive compromise between the classical Fraunhofer achromats with all their optical compromises and the very expensive apochromatic refractors.

The NA 120 is quite portable and is held with good stability by relatively small and inexpensive mounts. Image quality is very good and the short focal ratio allows for impressive wide-field views. The flat field of view improves performance of cheap eyepieces and results in a better sharpness towards the edge.

Astro Imaging
This is what the Neo Achromats were primarily designed for. The short focal ratio results in short exposure times. The 35mm film format is fully illuminated and corrected.

On axis colour correction is better than in comparable achromatic refractors. Off axis the advantage is even more prominent.

These telescopes are also excellently suited for modern CCD and DSLR cameras. With the short focal length a large field of view can be depicted in excellent quality on a small CCD chip.

The Vixen GP-E is the lightest and most portable solution. We recommend protection against wind.

The Vixen 130mm Neo Achromat is the upper limit concerning portability for many amateurs. But once set up it will demonstrate what 130mm aperture are good for with a very good image quality.

Visual performance on moon and the planets is very good. The low false colour turns the Neo Achromat 130 into an equal opponent for significantly larger Fraunhofer refractors for objects within our solar system.

The large 140mm aperture Neo Achromat is a powerful observatory-grade instrument.
It is nonetheless also suitable for portable operation, too.

The large 140mm Neo Achromat offers an enormous light gathering power and very short exposure times. At the same time image quality is excellent over the entire field of view. The telescope is perfectly suited for photography of extended nebulae and star clusters with pinpoint stars which only refractors will show.

The Vixen GP-D2 carries the telescope with good stability and is suitable for astro-imaging. You should protect the telescope from wind.
The Celestron CGE is oversized for the telescope and as a result leaves a lot of power reserves for heavy accessories, a guide scope, ... It is also particularly recommended for stationary use in an observatory.

Vixen ED-Apochromats offer a surprising value for money and need not fear any comparison with other top Apo brands.

Vixen ED Apochromats use special "Extra-Low Dispersion" glasses for the objective lenses. As a result you get a superb image quality at a very high contrast. False colour can hardly be seen and does not negatively affect the image sharpness. The Vixen ED81 apochromat is an ideal travel scope. It is suitable not only for low magnifications (like normal short tube telescopes), but also for high powers beyond 150x. The telescope is ideally suited for demanding observers and photographers.

With a focal length of 625mm the telescope is also an excellent telephoto lens for astro-imaging. It is particularly suited for open clusters and extended nebulae.

ED APO 103mm Aperture - Focal Length 795mm

Vixen ED 103/795mm - on Orion Sky Pro mount - a stable combination

The well-made focuser of the Vixen ED holds heavy 2" accessories steadily in position.

Replacing both the older ED 102mm and Fluorite 102mm refractors the Vixen ED103SWT sets a new standard for the classical four inch refractor telescope. The newly designed lenses with high performance ED glass offer excellent colour correction on par with Fluorite refractors.

Due to the "faster" focal ratio with at the same time improved colour correction the new Vixen ED103SWT apochromat resembles an excellent all-purpose telescope for observing planets, double stars and deep sky objects. In order to supplement its usability for deep sky the ED103 is equipped with a 7x50 finderscope as standard accessory.

The apochromatic ED refractors share a two-lens optical layout with one lens made of high performance ED glass. Colour correction and the size of the corrected field make it suitable for 35mm SLR imaging.

The Vixen ED 115 on Vixen Sphinx mount with optional half pillar - a beautiful and functional setup which combines ease of use, stability and observing comfort through GoTo.

The new ED115SWT apochromat is Vixen's flagship in the ED apo line. It sets a standard of performance for ED refractors in terms of image quality and contrast.

Vixen has redesigned their ED optics from scratch, replacing not only the previous ED 114 refractor but also their fluorite refractor line. At a relatively fast focal ratio of f/7.7 the refractor offers an image quality and colour correction formally only known in fluorite refractors. This makes the telescope perfectly suited not only for demanding observers, but also for high-performance astro-imaging.

Quick Release Clamp for Fast Setup
Telescopes are held by means of a quick release clamp. Attaching or removing a telescope takes only a few seconds.

We offer the PS Foto as the counterpart for the quick release clamp. With the PS Foto you can mount cameras, spotting scopes etc. on the Porta mount. This turns the Porta into a sturdy camera tripod. Please note: The position of the camera is tilted 90° to the left when compared with standard tripods.

The Porta mount comes with a sturdy adjustable height aluminium tripod. You can adjust height between approx. 90cm and 130cm.
